EOPs are generally developed for large-scale disasters and are rarely pressed into service as Surge Plans. Many facilities attempt to manage surges in patient volume with temporary staff holdovers, calling in those who live close to the facility and resorting to other stopgap measures. That approach can be unsustainable, leading to medical errors, staff burnout and patient dissatisfaction. Creating an Effective Surge Plan From Your Hospital's EOP has been prepared specifically for Administrators of hospitals and hospital systems, CEOs, CFOs, ED Directors and CNOs. The webinar will identify key components of the plan, demonstrate how to assess currrent capabilities, and identify available resources. Course content is dependent on the skill and experience levels of the participants, and will be tailored to meet their needs.
Creating an Effective Surge Plan From Your Hospital's EOP is being presented by one of Compirion's top nurse clinicians, Clinical Consultant Ben Gould, RN, BSN, CEN. Over almost 20 years, Gould has held many positions as an Emergency Services professional. He has worked as a paramedic/EMT, patient transfer consultant and pilot, Emergency RN, case manager, triage nurse, and ER line supervisor. The range of his work has given him invaluable insight into the complexities of the Emergency care continuum. Gould has just completed work as a consultant at East Texas Medical Center where he helped staff to redesign process flow and to develop a Surge Plan to handle a 42% increase in patient volume due to the H1N1 virus. Even with the increase, ETMC was still able to improve its overall Length of Stay and significantly reduce the percentage of patients who Left Without Being Seen.
